Southern Hospitality
We know that southern food has a bit of a repution---- delicious but for many years most everything was fried. We're going to do an entire southern meal, and we're not frying a thing! Leave the Crisco can at the grocery store. Instead, enjoy an evening full of southern-style home cooking----all are 'make-again' recipes that your family will love.
Tomato Cheddar Soup - Sounds great right now, doesn't it? The cheddar adds a creaminess to counter the acidity from the tomatoes. A steaming, savory delight.
Grilled Pimento Cheese Sliders - You'll want these cut into little wedges and served alongside that soup. Any real southern cook knows their way around homemade pimento cheese. So will you.
Sweet Southern Slaw - crunchy, crisp, traditional slaw with a tinge of sweet.
Chicken and Noodles over Mashed Potatoes - okay, you may argue that noodles AND mashed potatoes are a little redundant. Yep. We know. Redundant but rapturously good. You'll see.
Hummingbird Cake - a lovely marriage of banana bread and carrot cake. While it actually originated in Jamaica, it's become a true southern classic, elevated by adding a drizzle of roasted banana sauce.
