Northwoods Riches and A Hometown Gem
Our special guest for the weekend will be none other than the amazingly talented pie baker extraordinaire, Lisa Ludwinski. She’s a best-selling cookbook author, James Beard Award finalist, owner of the wildly popular Sister Pie Bakery, and a hometown gem from none other than good old Milford, Michigan. Lisa will be sharing tips on pie baking, teaching us how to make scrumptious scones, and sharing about her life and that of her famous bakery.
Day 1 (dinner included) Farm & Table will be the theme of the weekend. Set in the inspiring surroundings of Blisswood, the weekend will begin with a delightful welcome dinner featuring farm-fresh favorites while a fire crackles from the nearby hearth. We’ll linger over a delicous dessert before day’s end.
Day 2 (breakfast, lunch, dinner included) Saturday finds us embarking on a day of adventure discovering some of the hidden gems of the Harbor Springs area: a lovely lavender farm, a family-owned grange specializing in all things maple, and a quaint farmstead and vineyard featuring panoramic views of Lake Michigan. We’ll enjoy a private luncheon at Small Batch at the Cupola, an artisan cafe with a European flair—and some free time for treasure-hunting in the many shops that grace the picture-perfect downtown of Harbor Springs. You may want to wake up early; Lisa will be in the kitchen baking pies. Grab some breakfast and say hello! The evening will be yours to spend as you wish. Settle in with your travel companions or gather ‘round the bonfire and toast s’mores. Dinner will be light fare, leaving plenty of room for pie!
Day 3 (breakfast, lunch included) Sunday morning we’ll enjoy a cooking demonstration as Lisa shares the fine art of scone baking; we’ll relish the results with breakfast. The afternoon will be yours to enjoy. Relax in an Adirondack chair, stroll the shoreline, venture out in kayaks, or hike one of the nearby trails. We’ll meet up in Cross Village later that day discovering all this hidden gem has to offer, creating a hand-blocked tea towel at Three Pines Studio and dining on Polish fare from the area’s iconic restaurant, Legs Inn. You’ll be on your own for dinner. You could dine in--enjoying homemade pasta from Black Barn Farm or pizza from the Crow’s Nest--- or venture out to one of the nearby restaurants. Should the evening prove chilly, what better way to wind down than to cozy up beside a stone fireplace, enjoying cards or conversation.
Day 4 (Breakfast included) Monday morning we’ll bid Blisswood adieu. We’ll gather together for one last breakfast before making our way home, grateful for renewed spirt and lasting connection, savoring the memories shared.
